Door closed, door opened!
Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006When a door
shut, hopefully another door opens.
I thank the UK government and tax payer for subsidising my
medical training in UK. To train a doctor would cost £250
000 to £500 000. 3 years of post graduate training probably cost more.
Now that UK no longer needs IMG (international
medical graduates) I have to leave the system. No choice… Would rather stay
back to have more training.
Some smart
countries, have taken the opportunity to cash in to the uncertainties in UK international medical work force.
The UK tax payer funded the undergraduate and post
graduate training of these doctors, and now these doctors are recruited to
serve in Australia and Singapore. The only price the Australians
(and Singaporeans) are paying is a one way ticket for a highly skilled young
professional.
The
Malaysian government also tried to attract Malaysian doctors back to Malaysia. RM7000, a RM4000 jump in salary
for those who had passed the membership exams. Have the gov address the cause
of brain drain?
Globalization?
Saturday, May 20th, 2006The big
economies of the world had been pushing for “globalization”. Basically to
enable the big economies to tap into the market and resources of the less
develop world. Globalization equals free flow of capital, free flow of capital
bring much more opportunity for profits.
Unfortunately,
globalization does not always mean a free flow of labour! Many countries have tightened
their border control, deterring foreigner from competing in their job market.
The end
results, the poor become poorer, the rich become richer.
What
different is globalization from colonization? Big economies dominate small
economies, and rip off the benefit. Shall we call it Neo-colonization?
Feeling angry
and disappointed for not being able to secure a job, not because I am not good
enough, but for holding the wrong passport! Again being discriminated, again
being a second class “citizen”…
