To a better place

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

Year 2000,
in a foreign place, first time living overseas. My small collection of Buddhist
books, help me through those days…

The books, donated
by Buddhist friends from Malaysia
, to help me to set up a Buddhist society
in Queen’s. Unfortunately, the society never materialized. These books, has
since been in my “library”, read by few of my friends.

Now with my relocation to Australia, the dharma books will also go to a better place. I have donated them
on behalf of my friends to Queen’s University Library.

May the wisdom of
Buddha, lighten up the life of some readers in Belfast.

Leaving To Australia

Tuesday, June 27th, 2006

With the
current employment situation for doctors inUK, I have decided to leave UK for
Australia.

It is a big
move, an Epic Journey… Life will definitely be different for me in a few weeks
time.

Now, the
preparation. Medical, x-ray, blood tests, Visa, etc. Also need to sit for IELTS
English test, to prove my English proficiency.

Also,
selling and giving away some of my worldly processions.

Epic Journey,
No turning back.

Discrimination Based on Citizenship

Tuesday, June 13th, 2006

Yet another unpublish letter to BMAnews…

Dear
Editor,

Amanda
Watson (‘PLAB protocol explained’). From her letter I understand that

1. There is
no means of confirming quality of non-British medical degree.
2. PLAB is
there to safe guard patient’s interest.
3. There is
“inconsistency” created by European Commission law, EEA citizen need not sit
for PLAB.

Can we
conclude that even tough the GMC have no idea about the competency of doctors
from EEA, but since they are European, they will be good enough and safe enough
for NHS patients?

As for the non-European
doctors holding the same degree from EEA, they are not good enough and not safe
to practice medicine in NHS because they are NOT EUROPEAN. They will need to
sit for PLAB.

“Inconsistency
in policy” should perhaps be called as discrimination based on citizenship. Is
there a touch of racism?

Can we also
conclude that safe guarding patient interest is of secondary importance? Up
holding the European Law is more important to the GMC.

Paradigm Shift Needed

Another of my letter to BMJNews which is not publish. At least no one stop me from "publishing" on my blog.

Dear
Editor,

Gay and
lesbian marriage/partnership was not recognisable by the state.

Women did
not have voting rights.

Catholics did
not have the equal opportunity for higher education and employment.

Chinese and
dogs were not allowed into the restaurant.

Jews were
prosecuted.

We recognised
all the above as different forms of discriminations. None of us would dream to openly
support any of the above statement in public. The society no longer condones
these forms of discrimination.

Which ever
forms of discrimination, what ever reasons we may give for discriminating will
never be good enough to justify the act of discrimination. Time will tell, as
we have seen from the above examples.

“Non EU
doctors need not apply!” Why does the
society allow discrimination based on passport?

One day, I
hope this form of discrimination shall also cease.

Discriminated,
C H
Lee
MB BCh BAO

Competing
interest: I am of Chinese origin, holding a Malaysian Passport, seeking a job
in the NHS.

is to keep going…

Boder Trek 2005

Sunday, June 4th, 2006

Well… It took me 1 year to put all this photos up in my blog.

2 days cycle challenge, 206 miles in the scenic North West region of Ireland. Accross the border or Rep. Ireland and Northern Ireland.

This is the main fundraising event by Cooperation Ireland, the Peace building charity to improve cross community relationship. All money raised is to support the charity’s peace building projects with young people.

2 days 206 miles. Only one way to complete the challenge, KEEP GOING. Beautiful memories of pushing my body and mind to the limits.

See photos in the gallery.
